Welcome back, lovebirds! Welcome to Part 2 of our series...
Read More– If you are planning an event, and dreaming of turning it into a magical and memorable experience – you must have already started imagining it to the smallest of details. There are quite a few important choices and decisions you will have to make, but one of the crucial, challenging ones is choosing the location – after all, with no location, there is no event!
Location choice is a significant factor that influences other decisions such as the design, the concept, the food, the budget, and more. The location creates the atmosphere and has an impact on the whole nature of the event.
Whether you are planning a wedding, a birthday, or a conference, choosing the location is the first choice you will have to make especially if you are planning an overseas event or a destination wedding.
So how will you choose the location? When thinking about Greece, the first thing that comes to mind is golden beaches, with the traditional Greek architecture accompanied by shiny Greek houses, painted in the renowned Greek white color with blue doors and windows.
While the Greek islands with their breath-taking beaches always take the limelight, Greece has so much more to offer beyond its abundance of beaches – a variety of urban sites, rich history, and amazing food. We are here to try and introduce you to Greece from a slightly different point of view and offer special locations for your event:
Athens, the Greek capital, is the perfect place if you want to have a taste of some of the Greek urban charm. You can walk around the beautiful districts of Plaka, Gazi, and many more, visit impressive historical sites such as the Acropolis, the Parthenon, or the Temple of Poseidon, plan a tour in the colorful markets, and have a taste of the wonderful flavors of authentic Greek food through a culinary tour, a visit to a traditional Greek tavern or plan an evening at the Bouzoukia – an essential part of the Athenian nightlife.
A tavern is a restaurant that serves food and you can occasionally find a band as background music, while a Bouzoukia is a place that focuses on music and live performances and which also serves food.
The Bouzoukia will usually start the performance at midnight, and the happy music will go into the night.
When planning an event – it is worth taking into consideration the weather in Athens – a very hot summer, and more comfortable weather in the autumn, winter, and spring seasons.
Our recommendation for urban destinations:
Northern Greece – Zagori and Tzoumerka regions provide a completely different Greek experience from the tourist ones we are all familiar with – with a variety of spectacular villages, streams, and waterfalls. If you would like an autumn or winter event – an amazing option is the stunning Pelion Peninsula.
Pelion is a mountain that grows in the eastern part of the prefecture of Magnesia. At the West, it is bounded by the plains of Thessaly and Pagasitikos gulf and at the East, it ends to the Aegean Sea.
The entrance to Pelion goes through the large port city of Volos, and is one of the most spectacular and unique areas in Greece with a combination of dense forests, picturesque villages, mountains, and waterfalls combined with beautiful turquoise beaches. The area includes forests consisting mainly of oak, maple, and chestnut trees, and cliffs that fall sharply into the sea. At its peak, the height of the mountains in the area can reach 1610 meters.
Pelion Peninsula will provide you and your guests the best Greek experience including a stroll through the picturesque villages, an amazing seafront tavern, great food & drinks, and a lot of peace and quiet. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? The area is known for its architecture and spectacular and for its rare beauty during autumn – an event to which people come to see from all over the world –with a Greek character, food, and music are added to the experience. The island is located about two hours and a short drive from Thessaloniki airport and allows easy access by car.
Our recommendations:
A 4-star resort that is designed like a small village, with wide outdoor areas, traditionally designed rooms, and breathtaking views it is the perfect choice for an intimate event of up to 60 people.
The hotel is a two-hour drive from Thessaloniki Airport. Check out their Instagram for more inspiration
It turns out that hiding in Greece are some wonderful and much less touristy islands than Rhodes, Crete, or Mykonos that we all know and love.
One of them is our home island – the island where we got married and where we live – Evia – the second largest island in Greece after Crete, it is a piece of paradise based almost entirely on local tourism, with amazing, fresh food served straight from the sea, intoxicating views, white beaches, warm and welcoming people and an ambiance of peace and quiet. In the north of the island, you can find green landscapes and mountains and sometimes even snow in winter.
The island is connected to the mainland side of Greece with a bridge which gives it easy access from Athens airport and can be reached by car, or a ferry.
Our recommendations:
Amaronda resort is a 4-star resort with a private beach, a local restaurant, a great beach bar, amazing art sculptures, and paintings are decorating the resort. the rooms are stylish and modern and the service is beyond great – it is the perfect choice for events for over 70 people. The resort is an hour and a bit drive from Athens Airport. you can drive directly or use the ferry service to Evia Island.
Check out their Instagram for more inspiration.
Another favorite is this local Cafe-Cocktail-Music- Bar which gives you the feeling of sitting in your own exotic island. add amazing cocktails and friendly service to the mix and this is definitely a place you don’t want to miss. Check out their Instagram or Facebook page if you want to drink a cocktail on the beach right now!
