Our couples: Lior & Rom

Lior and Rom married on Evia Island, in a celebration spanning 3 days, full of friends, family, good food, live performances, pool parties and a dance floor that was never empty. This was no small affair, with a guest list of over 200 of their friends and family making the trip out to Evia – Greece’s second biggest island, only an hour’s drive from Athens – to witness their love story unfold amidst the magic and beauty of Greece’s breathtaking landscapes. Through their eyes and ours we see the dream of a destination wedding brought to life.

Tell us a little about yourself, who are you and how did you meet?

Rom is a real estate developer and Lior an interior designer, a match made in heaven we think!

Lior: We met through a mutual friend who lives in Thessaloniki, he brought us together at a party in Tel Aviv just before the corona virus broke out and since then we have been inseparable, splitting our time between Tel Aviv and Berlin.

How did you come to the decision to get married in Greece?

Rom and Lior: We decided to get married in Greece because we wanted to create a special experience for our guests. We were looking for a location with spectacular views, perfect weather, divine flavours and a special atmosphere that would be within touching distance of our country. This desire led us to choose a unique and special destination – Greece!

How long did it take you to plan the wedding? Tell us about the challenges you faced.

Rom: At first we were on the fence, between using the hotel services and trying to do everything ourselves or enlisting the professional support of a dedicated wedding planner. After some digging on the subject and understanding what it means to get married abroad, it became clear to us that there were some compromises to be made, but having a skilled production team by our side was not going to be one of them.

Tell us a little about the wedding production process with Anat and Jonathan.

Rom and Lior: The adventure of planning our wedding with Anat and Yonathan was something beyond imagination. It wasn’t just another project, but a journey full of exciting tours, crazy food tastings and of course, the perfect flow with every crazy idea that came to our imagination. They not only supported us, but also gave us the necessary confidence to step forward without fear. The preparations for the wedding became an integral part of our wonderful experience, and we have no words to describe our happiness at choosing them to be part of our story.

Lior and Rom contacted us after they had already secured the hotel where they wanted to get married, the journey we went through with them was exciting! They trusted us to bring their vision to life, and it was our pleasure to make their dream wedding a reality.

Our first task was the construction of their personalised wedding website, with a guestlist of 200+ it was essential to both keep their guests informed and a great way streamline the RSVP and planning process, for everyone involved. A destination wedding isn’t just about turning up on the day, you are essentially organising a holiday for everyone.

In the second phase, Rom and Lior arrived in Greece to tour locations and choose suppliers.
Lior lives and breathes design and Rom loves the world of hospitality, so it was great fun to get them excited about the look and feel we would create and the food and drinks we would serve at their wedding.

Lior and Rom were hands-on during the planning stages, but when the long-awaited weekend came, they naturally took a step back and allowed us to manage the event in the best possible way.

What part of the wedding planning did you enjoy the most?

Lior: Every part of the planning of our wedding was full of fun moments that we will always treasure. But if there is one experience that stood out in particular, it was definitely the moment on the wedding day when I stood on the balcony of our room and looked down and saw the design, colours and layout all jump from the pages of my imagination into reality. I remember looking out at it all and being so excited for what was about to happen.

The connection between all of us was effortless and natural and the main feeling was that each of us was bringing something unique to the table. Having a couple who knows what they want and has these brilliant ideas is a total dream for a wedding planner - you can run with their ideas and present some crazy options and they will have the vision to see the end product.

What was the most important thing for you in the process? Was there anything you weren't willing to compromise on?

Rom: The most important part of the wedding? The food, without a doubt.
Lior and I love good food, new flavours and creativity. All along it was important to us that this be reflected in the dishes that we would serve to our guests. The combination of Anat’s culinary experience and the extraordinary tastes and skill of Chef Kobi Bachar, a great friend of ours whose help we enlisted, resulted in a menu that was customized perfectly for us. Each dish was a story in itself, there was no guest at the wedding who did not compliment us on the food.

Knowing how important food was to the couple, we worked closely with Chef Kobi Bachar in perfect synchronisation. Together we looked at the Greek tradition and connected it to contemporary tastes and forms of serving to provide a tasting experience across the whole weekend.

As planners, one of the challenges of holding a multi-day event at the same location is that we want to create the feeling that every day of the event is in a different place, therefore each event of the weekend has its own unique character, flavour and decor.

The first night we created a Greek themed welcome party with all the trimmings - live band and dancers, plate smashing and of course delicious Greek food. This was served at food market style stalls dotted around the pool.

For the wedding day itself, we wanted to create an elegant restaurant vibe.Choosing premium crockery and glassware added a touch of class to the tables, which were also adorned with an array of beautiful white florals. We didn’t want to eliminate the energetic flow of the event so we chose to serve the meal in large dishes in the centre of the table allowing guests to share and connect over an exquisite meal.

The day after the night before was a pool day, with inflatables, hearty and nutrient rich food to sort out any sore heads.

Tell us a little about the wedding day - the design, the food, the atmosphere, the feeling

Rom and Lior:
On the day of the wedding we held the ceremony at the beach at sunset and from there we continued to an elegant dinner with a minimal and white design, the atmosphere was magical. There was a feeling that time stood still when we were surrounded by the people we love the most, celebrating our love together!

It was a magical day for the couple and we are always overjoyed when they are so happy with the outcome of all our hard work. Their photographs really do speak a thousand words, from a beautifully calm and relaxed bride enjoying her morning being pampered, to the first look photographs and the groom tearing up, to their elation when they had exchanged their vows and the endless looks of love and smiles of joy captured throughout the day. The decor down at the beach with their stunning chuppah and aisle decorations to each detail on the tables and full scale music and lighting production. We will let the photos do the talking for us here!

What tip would you give to couples planning a destination wedding?

Rom and Lior: Our golden tip for destination wedding couples is simple – grab the adventure with both hands, release all pressures and surrender to believing in the magic of your event planners. In the end, the most beautiful memories are made when we simply let moments happen naturally.

Share with us an unforgettable moment from the wedding

Rom and Lior: There were so many unforgettable moments at our wedding – The pictures will say it all, and they do tell a complete story. There is something magical about going back and diving into these memories, seeing how every dream and plan not only came true but also exceeded every expectation. Each and every photo from our wedding is proof of that!

So to your question?! There is not one day from our wedding celebration and there is not one memory, there is a sequence of experiences and memories that make us smile every time we think about it. From the spectacular arch that had a lot of charm, to the non-stop compliments that came from all the guests, we enjoyed the fireworks that added a special touch and of course the dancing that lasted until morning and did not leave a single guest sitting.

We totally agree that the whole weekend was one epic party filled with joy and love and we are so glad Rom, Lior and all their guests have the best memories to treasure forever! If we had to pick one stand out moment, it would be during the Greek welcome party: there was one point in the night where there wasn’t a single person missing from the dance floor. Everyone was on their feet dancing and smashing plates - 6,000 to be exact!

And there you have it, a celebration of love, set against the backdrop of Greece’s timeless beauty, more than just a wedding; it was a journey of joy, design, and unforgettable moments. Lior and Rom’s journey with Sirtaki showcases the magic of destination weddings and the beauty of bringing dreams to life.
