Wedding Design Trends 2023

When you start planning your wedding, you often don’t know where to start. There are so many elements and logistics to consider, especially when it’s a destination wedding and it can be overwhelming at times.
Since 2020, couples have ditched expectations and wedding rules. We see less of the traditional big weddings, And couples (as well as suppliers) are embracing some fabulous new wedding trends in 2023.
We we absolutely love the design side of the wedding and that’s why we decided to dedicate a whole month to discuss all things design!

For 2023, a few new design trends are on the rise to define the next era of wedding décor. The biggest takeaway? It’s going to be a year of seriously fun, new design.

Bold colour palettes and textures

The white, gold and green wedding colour combinations that were popular in 2022 are classic and are not going anywhere. However, opposite from the neutral tones, one of the strongest trends we will see through 2023 is a major embrace of colour and couples getting creative with their wedding décor, using vibrant bold and daring colour schemes. Pops of colour against a neutral background can make a big impact and give your wedding a design a ‘wow’ factor. We are loving this fun wedding trend that is perfect for couples who love colour. It will come to life not only in colour, but in pattern and texture, showing up everywhere from table settings, stationery, and even wedding wardrobe (hello, colourful wedding gowns!)

Don’t be afraid to mix it up! This year is all for unconventional colour combinations! It’s always best to try and choose 2 colours as base and add more colours on top if you are looking for a fun and colourful vibe.

Try mixing up the heights on the tables with different sized vases and décor items such as coloured candles or candle holders, or even coloured water glasses. You can also try mixing elements such as glass and clay to create a natural, free flowing aesthetic.

Flower power

In line with the bold colour palette, in the flower department we are leaving minimalism behind and saying hello to maximalism. The prediction is for flowers to overflow with natural bundles with textured florals in bold colours and multiple layers of  blooms. From ceremony flower arches to statement structures to decorate your wedding reception, statement floral displays were big in 2022 and we don’t see this changing in 2023.

As well as using seasonal, locally grown flowers, try adding some unexpected flowers in single varieties or mixing wild flowers in many different colours to create a colourful vibe with emphasis on saturated warm tones—shades and tints like red, rust or orange. For example a lavender or purple and yellow palette with a few unexpected tones like red/orange or deep blue.

Sustainable Design

Although this is not a new trend, we are certainly seeing a rise in awareness this year as we all want to find ways to be more sustainable choosing products and services that have a positive environmental impact. We will see more weddings being mindful of the environmental impact trying to leave a smaller carbon footprint.

You can start by thinking of the small details while planning your wedding and play a part in reducing your environmental impact.  We can think about using installations that can be recycled or reused (even later in the day) and as mentioned the seasonal, locally-grown flowers are also more sustainable. You can then donate the flowers to a local hospital or nursing home.

Choose eco-friendly party favours that are reusable or made from post-consumer recycled materials such as beeswax candles or tree planting kits. Try to find disposable and compostable cocktail and wine glasses or compostable tableware – these can also be stylish and not impact your wedding day vision.

Food creativity

This year the creativity and playfulness doesn’t end in the design and we can see it also when it comes to wedding food. We will see couples choosing a more adventurous menu and visually appealing and uniquely designed food stalls.
Couples are not just interested in food stations for the food they offer but also for the vibrant designs adding style and a whole new vibe to their celebration mood!

For example using colourful vegetables and fruits will create a vibrant market vibe or a treat table full of beautifully displayed variety of cakes and desserts to surprise the guests.

If you are looking for a twist on standard wedding food - a food truck can be a trendy choice and a fun addition to your event and can act as an eye catching centre piece at your event - whether for serving the main meal or just for desserts. bringing a food truck for a late-night snack or cocktail-hour appetisers is a great idea regardless of the formality of your wedding.

Lighting art is the new décor

lighting has always been an important part of the design, whether indoor or outdoor,  this year it will be more innovative. From Hanging Candles to pathway lights, and whether adding ambiance or creating focal points throughout the venue, lighting can really set the tone and the mood for your entire celebration.

If you are going for a cosy, intimate ambiance, using string lights is perfect for a simple, minimalistic outdoor wedding. a set of string lights up above will be shining as bright as the stars! If you want to take the lighting situation to the next level try using fairy lights – this trendy lighting option can truly transform a space creating a glamorous vibe for any wedding style.
